1930s Ilonka Karasz Sterling Silver Modernist Bowl
1930s. Etched with the designer’s mark on the base, this sterling silver bowl with a modernist and distinctly architectural form was created by Ilonka Karasz (American, born Hungary, 1896–1981), a significant yet often underrecognized 20th-century designer. It is stamped with her initials "IK" on corner of one of the base legs.
Throughout her extensive career, Ilonka Karasz worked across many media, including wallcoverings, textiles, lighting, ceramics, metalwork, toys, and furniture. She is best known for her New Yorker magazine cover illustrations. Her sculptural metal pieces are rare and valuable, reflecting a modernist and futurist style. A bowl, a part of this same limited collection, was once exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
