Aubusson "Le Scorpion" Tapestry by Jean Lurcat, 1892 - 1966

1960s, France. This hand-woven Aubusson wool tapestry titled "Nazareth" by Jean Lurcat originates from France in the 1960s. Created at the C. Legoueix Workshop, it is signed, titled, and inscribed by the artist both on the tapestry’s corner and on the label at the back. Jean Lurcat, recognized as the father of modern tapestry, played a key role in reviving this art form. His work frequently includes themes of nature, animals, and the cosmos, with compositions that grew more complex and detailed over time.
